Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644)
the deified holy man with shaved head shown standing on an integral lotus-pod base carved with radiating lotus-petal lappets, his face well carved in a respectful, pious expression, wearing monastic robes falling to his feet in simple folds and with a small ring-clasp in relief over one shoulder, attached by a cord to a small clasp in back, the hands now missing, formerly held together in front of his chest, folded in prayer, his arms covered by very deep sleeves which hang down in front, the fine-grained dense hardwood showing scattered traces of lacquer and gilding.
