A LONGQUAN CELADON SMALL BOWL
Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1127-1279)
with a fine bluish-green ‘kinuta’ glaze, the rounded sides rising from a small ring foot of wedge-shaped cross-section to an upturned rim with unglazed lip, the glossy glaze of bright, even tone inside and out continuing over the recessed base, the unglazed footrim and lip showing the gray stoneware burnt reddish-brown in the firing.

A group of five similar bowls, from a cache of Song ceramics discovered in 1991 at Jinyu village, Suining city, Sichuan province, are illustrated in the catalogue of the travelling exhibition of selected items from the excavation entitled Newly Discovered Southern Song Ceramics: A Thirteenth Century Time Capsule, Tokyo, 1998, nos. 39-43, pp. 42-43.
